This private
residence dates back to the late 1700s (this
makes it one of Washington, DC's oldest
homes). Originally built in
Massachusetts, it was dismantled & moved to
its present location in the 1920s.
Universal Floors, Inc. hand scraped, oiled, &
waxed the entire mansion without the use of a
single power tool. The wax was custom
blended to create the desired color.

Universal Floors,
Inc. is the only wood floor company in
Washington, DC that has retained the lost art
of "Hand scraping". The founder of
Universal Floors, Inc. South T. Lynn Sr. (also
known as 'Capt') gained his knowledge of hand
scraping through his father, who himself
learned from a European craftsman in the late
1800s. This knowledge has been past down
to the third generation: Sprigg & South Lynn
Jr.
